International Symposium On The Languages Of Java

15-16 August 2007
Semarang, Java, Indonesia

Getting There

Semarang is relatively easy to access from almost any entry point into Indonesia. It is the fourth largest city in Java, being the island with the most developed and extensive transport system. In addition to regular rail and bus links from all major cities in Java (Jakarta, Bandung, Yogya, Surabaya), and ferry/boat links with most of the other major islands (this for the truly intrepid), there are plenty of air options. Most domestic and international carriers go through Jakarta. There are also a couple of international connections listed below. For many domestic carriers, online booking is not yet available. You can book flights online for the following airlines.

AIR LINKS

Garuda Air, the national carrier, is the only airline with direct international links to Semarang. It also provides service from Jakarta.

Several Airlines have international flights to Solo/Surakarta, which is about two hours from Semarang (by bus or taxi). Some participants may want to choose this option.

Singapore Airlines local carrier, Silk Air, flies Saturday, Tuesday, Thursday between Singapore and Solo. It's SGD 449, all included.

AirAsia flies direct from Kuala Lumpur to Solo daily. Around 330 MYR return.

TRAIN LINK

There are regular executive trains from Jakarta and Surabaya to Semarang. The trip from Jakarta is about 7-8 hours, and there are night and day trains. Tickets are generally not available online, and must be purchased at the train station. Executive trains leave Jakarta from Gambir Station, in Central Jakarta arriving at Tawang Station Semarang. For a schedule, see: http://www.joglosemar.co.id/train.html#smg

This is the official website for the train: http://infoka.kereta-api.com/jadwal_dan_tarif. Please note that in the bottom right hand corner of the website, you can change to English. This website provides the schedules and prices, but you cannot purchase tickets online.
