Guy Sharett


Position: Research Supervisor (former staff member, 1999-2000)

Guy was born and raised in Ashdod, Israel. He received his BA in Linguistics from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and completed his MA in Southeast Asian Studies at the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of London. Then he moved to Bangkok, Thailand, where he became the Southeast Asia Correspondent for Israel's biggest newspaper and for Channel 10 TV Network. Together with best friend Daniel Ziv he wrote 'Bangkok Inside Out', an urban lexicon of Bangkok, which became a bestseller in 2005. Today Guy lives in Tel Aviv, Israel, where he is in charge of Asia-Pacific projects in an international TV company.

His chief interests at the field station were sociolinguistics and ethnolinguistics, while as a journalist he enjoyed writing about politics, culture, tourism and society in Southeast Asia. Amongst other languages, Guy speaks Bahasa Indonesia and Thai. He misses tempe goreng very much.
