Betty Litamahuputty was born in Deventer (The Netherlands). She received her MA-degree in Indonesian at Leiden University (The Netherlands) in 1991. She has done fieldwork in various places in Maluku and she is writing a PhD thesis on a linguistic description of Ternate Malay. Betty is also involved in a research project on endangered Moluccan languages in eastern Indonesia as well as in the Dutch diaspora [external link] based at Monash University, Australia. She supervises research assistants working in Padang. Her research interests are Malay varieties (particularly in eastern Indonesia), language endangerment and language documentation, and various topics in descriptive linguistics.
