Other comments: Songgu Zakhring dialect is one of the regional varieties of the Zakhring language spoken by the Tibetans living in some of the villages of Lower Chayu Township, Chayu County, in the Tibetan Autonomous Region, China by about 300 speakers. Zakhring is a mixed language with basic vocabulary similar to that of Geman Deng, but cultural vocabulary is similar to that of the Kham dialect of Tibetan. Zakhring has a decimal system. |

Other comments: Zakhring (Meyor) has a decimal system. Victor Landi, Language Officer of Directorate of Research was the first one to record Meyor data. However he is not a linguist but must have received some training. our institute known as Arunachal Institute of Tribal studies (AITS), Rajiv Gandhi University recorded Meyor data in collaboration with Prof J P Tamuli (Co Chair, NEILS conference) and his team from Gauhati University, Assam. The outcome of which I have shared as it was transcribed by me. There are inconsistencies in transcriptions as the native speakers only know the oral forms of the words and getting competent speakers with in-depth knowledge was difficult. So, the pronunciations vary. It must be helpful to know that the other contact language of the Meyor is the Miju ( Keman) Mishmi. Zakhring is spoken by approximately 1,000 speakers in India, and Zayul county, Lower Zayul township, 3 villages: Lading, Songgu, and Tama, Tibet, China. |
