Other comments: Yami has a decimal system similar to that of languages in the Batanes islands in the Philippines. They used a particular way to express compound numbers 11 to 19, 21 to 29 ..., which means 'one at the 2nd stage or step'. The above data was from the Imorod dialect of Yami.
Yami language or Tao language, is an Austronesian language spoken by the Tao people of Orchid Island, 46 kilometers southeast of Taiwan. It is a member of the Ivatan dialect continuum. Yami is known as ciriciring no Tao 'human speech' by its native speakers. Native speakers prefer the 'Tao' name. There are approximately Yami 3,800 speakers.
