Other commentsː Welaun (Bekais) has a decimal system. Bekais (Welaun) used to be misclassified as a dialect of Tetum, to which it has many similarities, but it is actually a distinct Timoric Austronesian language, midway between Tetum and Dawan. Lakalei and Idate are quite different; dialects of 'Idalaka' (artificial name), an Austronesian language closer to Mambai than to Tetum. Welaun is spoken by approximately 6,000 speakers in Balibo Vila, Leohito, Bobonaro district, East Timor as well as West Timor in Indonesia. |
