Other comments: Tahitian has a decimal system. There are archaic forms in Tahitian for numbers 2, 8, 10, 100 and 1000, which have not been used now. Old numbers for 'hundred' rau and 'thousand' mano have been replaced by English with phonological adaptationsː 'hundred' haːnere and 'thousand' tauatini. Tahitian is spoken by about 68,000 speakers in Leeward Islands and Windward Islands, Tuamotu and Gambier Islands, French Polynesia and New Caledonia. |
