Other comments: Sinyar is spoken by approximately 12,000 speakers in Ouaddaï region and Sila region, near confluence of Azum, Kaja, and Salih rivers, Chad and in Sudan. Sinyar is traditionally classified within Bongo-Bagirmi. It is in fact a kind of ‘mixed’ language that shares many lexical and morphological features with Bongo-Bagirmi (e.g. numerals) beside original features of its own, the origin of which has not been identified. The wò = 'and' as in 22 probably from Arabic. N.B.ː j =IPA [ɟ]; y =IPA [j]; aa, ii, etc. = long vowelsː à / ā / á = L / M / H tone. |
