Other comments: Sawai or Weda has a decimal counting system. For the numerials 1-9, there are a few different ways to count, depending on what you are counting. I'll use the example of two: pɛluwɛ (two (things)) sɛluwɛ (two (living things/people/animals)) (ay) luwe (two (trees)) (I'm giving you these examples to show that the "p-" or "pɛ-" is not fixed part of the root word. Sawai is spoken by about 12,000 speakers in some villages in Weda bay, Halmahera island, North Maluku province, Indonesia. |
