Saisiyat is spoken by about 2,000 speakers in Nanchuang and Shihtan townships, Miaoli county and in Wufeng township, Hsinchu county, Taiwan. Note the differences between traditional orthographical spelling and IPA transcriptionsː b = IPA [β]; s = IPA [θ], z = IPA [ð], S = IPA [ʃ], ng = IPA [ŋ], ’ = IPA [ˀɭ], L = IPA [ɭ], r = IPA [ɾ], y [j], e = IPA [ə].
