Other comments: Pech or Paya, Pesh is a moribund language spoken by approximately 300 speakers out of 6,000 ethnic population in Colón department: near Caribbean coast; Olancho department: Dulce Nombre de Culmi and Catamacas municipalities, Honduras. Pech has a vigesimal system. Higher decades cardinals are formed through a multiplicative process employing the morpheme -pé- 'times' (which may be related to the adjective particle péː 'much, many'); e.g. kʷàra-pé-kàh '10 x 4'='40'; kʷàra-pé-ùkkwa '10 x 10' = '100', etc. Pech is a tonal and please note that the v̀ indicates low tone and v́ high tone. |
