Other comments: Nyam has a vigesimal system with special construction for numbers 6 to 9. The word for 'ten' is etymologically derived from 'ear' and the word for 'twenty' means 'body', but there is another word 'kɔ̀' in construction of tens after 60, which etymologically means 'head'. Nyam (also known as Nyambolo) is an endangered West Chadic language spoken in one village in Taraba state, North East of Nigeria by approximately 100 speakers. |
