Other comments: Muwé-Ke or Mugom has a decimal system. Note that actually [ŋiʃu] will be added before each terms from 21 to 29. Note the mid-tone is unmarked. Mùwe Ké (aka Mugom, Mugali), originally spoken in Mugu village (29°43'40.81"N, 82°30'53.10"E) in the north of Mugu District, Karnali Zone, Nepal. There are also communities of Mùwe Ké speakers in Jumla, the district to the south; in the Kathmandu valley; and in Manali, Himachal Pradesh, India. These are approximately 7,500 speakers. Table SEQ Table \* ARABIC 1 The Mùwe Ké consonants
Note: Plosives and affricates in Mùwe Ké exhibit a four-way voicing in initial position as seen, for example, with the velar plosives kó ‘to compare, to dig’, khó ‘he’, kʰò ‘door’, gò ‘head’ and may be summarized, respectively, as voiceless unaspirated, voiceless aspirated, voiceless (or ‘devoiced’) usually with a slight aspiration followed with breathy voice, and voiced unaspirated. The five vowels found in Mùwe Ké represent the five cardinal vowels [i e ɐ o u], e.g. ʃá ‘meat’, ʃé ‘told’, ʃí ‘to die, died’, ʃó ‘to tell’, ʃú ‘to seek counsel’; note [ɐ] is given as a for convenience. Since there is only a two-way high/low contrast for tone in Mùwe Ké, tone is glossed as either high or low on mono- or initial syllables only, indicated with the IPA level tone symbols: high [é] and low [è]. |
