Other comments: Minangkabau has a decimal system similar to that of Malay. There are two forms for number 'one; ʔaso is used in literature and t͡ʃiɛʔ is used oral conversion.
Minangkabau spoken by about 5.5 million speakers of West Sumatra, the western part of Riau, South Aceh Regency, the northern part of Bengkulu and Jambi, also in several cities throughout Indonesia by migrated Minangkabau. The language is also a lingua franca along the western coastal region of the province of North Sumatra, and is even used in parts of Aceh, where the language is called Aneuk Jamee. Due to the huge proximity between Minangkabau and Malay, there is some controversy regarding the relationship between the two. Some see Minangkabau as a early variety of Malay, while others think of Minangkabau as a distinct (Malayic) language.
