Other comments: Matsigenka or Machiguenga is spoken by approximately 21,000 speakers in Cusco, Madre de Dios, and Ucayali regions: Camisea, Kompiroshiato, Picha, Manu, Mishagua, Tigompinia, Timpia, and Urubamba rivers, Peru. Machiguenga has only two words for numerals, These data are from the lower Urubamba variety of Matsigenka; I make no claims about the upper Urubamba variety, but I know there are many differences between these two varieties. The counting system in the lower Urubamba variety of Matsigenka is the same as the counting system in Nanti. |
