Other comments: Laal or Gori is spoken by approximately 750 speakers in Moyen-Chari region: Barh Kôh department, Gori (center), Damtar, and Mailao villages between Dik and Korbol, Chad. The village of Damtar formerly had a distinct dialect, called Laabe (la:bé), with two or three speakers remaining in 1977; it was replaced by the dialect of Gori after two Gori families fled there at the end of the 19th century to escape a war. No other dialects of Laal are known. Laal has a traditional decimal counting system with special forms for 7 to 9. However, the traditional numerals after ten have been replaced by Bagirmi numeral system now. Note that the 'c' and 'j' as in number 6 and 9 are followed the transcription of standard Africanist transcription principles: "c" and "j" are palatal stops (sometimes realized as affricates). |

Other comments: Laal has a decimal system. There are two options for 200: tūː ́ɡūdāɡ ʔīsī {ten/be ̠bigːPLURAL /two} and tū́ɡúr ɡūdāɡ ʔīsī {ten:PLURAL /be_ bigːPLURAL /two}. N.B.ː j = IPA [ɟ]; y =IPA [j]; / à / ā / á = / L / M / H tone. |
