Other comments: Kanan has a decimal system. Although the Kanan language is no related to Tai languages, Kanan use Shan / Tai counting systems. I couldn't find (no one knows now) whether they had they own counting system in the past. My language informants couldn't find the word for 2000. Although they could provide the above counting, today, in particle they use one to ten only. When it comes to eleven and more, many Kanan now use Burmese counting system. The data were taken from Namza village, Banmauk Township, Sagaing Division, Myanmar. It is unknown the Kanan and Kadu are dialects of a single language or two closed related languages. Tone transcriptions. 5 high, 3 mid and 2 low. Kanan or Ganan is spoken by approximately 9,000 speakers in Katha district, Banmauk township along Mu river as well as a few villages in Homalin, Indaw, and Pinlebu townships, Sagaing region, Myanmar, |
