Other comments: Hiligaynon or Ilonggo has a decimal system. Hiligaynon numbers beyond ten have been replaced by Spanish numbers. There are obsolete Hiligaynon numbers after 10, However Hiligaynon speakers would never really use the native Hiligaynon words for above 10. The Ilonggo lady who is one of my best friends, Senia Onas (68 years old), and she read the numbers for me. Hiligaynon, also often referred to as Ilonggo, is spoken by about 9.1 million people, predominantly in Western Visayas and Soccsksargen, most of whom belong to the Hiligaynon people. It is the second-most widely spoken language in the Visayas and belongs to the Bisayan languages. |
