Other comments: Northern Emberá or Darien Emberá,, Dadyi Ẽ́berã Bed̶ea, Ẽ́berã Bed̶ea is spoken by approximately 72,000 in Darién province: Chepigana district; Emberá province; Panamá province: Chepos and Chiman districts; lowland jungle along rivers, Gulf San Miguel area, Panama as well as Colombia. Northern Emberá has only preserved five traditional numbers, after five they adapted Spanish numbers. There was formerly a system of counting to twenty (all appendages of both hands and feet), similar to the related Catio quinary system based on five and person. |
