Other comments: Embera Catío or Ẽ́bẽra Katío is spoken by approximately 15,000 speakers out of 48,000 ethnic population in Antioquia, Chocó, and Córdoba departments: Murri, San Jorge, San Pedro, and upper Sinu rivers, Colombia as well as Panama. Embera Catío has a quinary system based on five and person ''kakua''. The word for 'twenty' is kakua ába, which means 'one person' ( counting both hands and feet). There was another form for ''two hundred'' kakua wesomá bama umé. In everyday life, the older people use mortifications to express larger numbers than five. For exampleː ũbéa bama kʰimárẽ = 3 x 4 ( modifications), but younger people use Spanish numbers. Note that 'to double a number '='ya'. 'audu' =addition. |
