Other comments: Arop-Lokep has a quinary-decimal system. The designation for 200 is more theoretical than practical in modern usage. Generally, numbers over 100 are borrowed from the English numbering system. The number for thousand is a recent loan from Tok Pisin ‘tausen.’ Arop-Lokep is spoken by about 3,000 speakers on four islands in the Siassi chain in the Vitiaz Strait in Papua New Guinea. |
