Other comments: Naukan Yupik counting system is base-twenty. The word number 20, yuɡinaq, is 'an entire man' (all 20 digits). 100 is 5 men and 400 is 20 men. 19 can be expressed by yuɡinaʁutŋilŋuq (20 - 1). Naukan Yupik is a moribund language spoken by only 60 speakers out of 450 ethnic population in Chukotka autonomous district: Lavrentiya, Nunyamo, and Uelen villages, Eastern Russian Federation. |
