Other comments: Supyire Sénoufo has system of counting based on eighty. The word 'ŋ̀kùù' etymologically means 'chicken' and could be an explanation of the semantic shift, assuming that it has something to do with the price of a chicken at some time in the past. There is a term for 400 'kàmpwòò' and then 1000 is expressed by the phase 'kàmpwòhii ʃùùnnì ná ŋ̀kwuu ʃùùnnì nà ŋ̀kwuu'=400 x 2+80 x 2+20 x 2). Nowadays, people are beginning to abandon the traditional complicated system in favor of the decimal system of standard Bambara. Especially for higher numbers, Bambara forms are frequently used. Supyire Sénoufo is spoken by approximately

350,000 speakers in Sikasso region: Sikasso circle, north from Sikasso city, Mali.
