Other comments: Seneca (Onödowá’ga:) is a moribund language with 100 older adults speakers only living in New York: Allegheny, Cattaraugus, and Tonawanda reservations, USA as well as Canada. Seneca has a decimal system. The phonetic symbolsː ë and ö are nasalized vowels. The colon indicates vowels length. The accent mark indicates a higher pitch. The 'sh' as in 20 and other tens are separated phonemes 's' and 'h'. 'dz' is a voiced alveolar affricate and 'j (=dž) is a voiced palatal affricate. ' ʼ ' is a laryngeal stop. |
