Other comments: The Nooksack or Lhéchelesem language became extinct since about 1988. There are still 1,600 ethnic population in northwest Washington, United States. Nooksack has a decimal system. The numbers with an asterisk were provided by Prof. Kinkade in 1990 and Prof. Brent Galloway told me that he disagreed with his choice of phonemic symbols for the low front unrounded vowel /é/ (it is never pronounced as an upper mid /é/, always as an upper low ash or digraph. Similarly [u] and [o] are in free variation, but [o] is much frequent. |
