Other comments: Santa Monteverde (Sasau) is spoken by approximately 5,300 speakers in Oaxaca state: Putla district, mostly Agua del Toro and Ocotlán, Mexico. Santa Lucía Monteverde Mixtec has a vigesimal system with a single word for 15. Hundreds and thousands are loans from Spanish. This is similar to that of Mixteco of Metlatónc. The number for 1 and 9 are in the same forms but different tones. Notesː traditional phonetic symbolsː x =IPA [hʲ]; nasalized vowels are under-hookedː ą, ę, į, ǫ, ų. = IPA ã, ẽ, ĩ, õ, ũ, mid tone is [ā], low [ à ], high tone [á] . Allophonesː The phonemes [β], [nᵈ] and [j] are oral, but have nasalized counterparts which are realized as [m], [n] and [ɲ] respectively. The phonemes [ɾ] and [l] are oral. [j] can be realized a [ʒ] in the first syllable of the root and [j] in the second syllable of the root. |
