Other comments: Matengo has a traditional quinary system. The number for thousand ''elúpu'' is a loanword from Swahili. Matengo or Chimatengo, Kimatengo is a Bantu language of Tanzania spoken by approximately 271,000 speakers. Nowadays Matengo speakers are mostly monolingual, and neighboring languages are not intelligible. Matengo language is relatively related to Ngoni language in that the two have similar history of origin. |
