Other comments: Jowshaqani has a decimal system. Jowshaqani (locally Gushguni) is an endangered Central Iranian language spoken in the small township of Jowshaqan (locally Gushgun) in Isfahan province of Iran. Central Iranian languages forms a subgroup of Northwest Iranian languages. With 3500 inhabitants, Jowshaqan is located some 120 km to the north of the city of Isfahan at the border of the area in which Central languages (dialects) are spoken. There are two closely related dialects of Jowshaqani spoken in Chaykun and Kumu villages near Jowshaqan. There is no code for Jowshaqani in Ethnologue. The phonetic features of the Jowshaqani numerals shows that most of the numerals are an adaptation of Persian or Middle Persian, for example se 'three' definitely is a Persian loanword, while the genuine form should be *here (like the one we see in Keringani). But this adaptation is seen in most new Iranian languages, except for a few one like Keringani, Hawrami or Balochi. this adaptation is not a recent borrowing, |
