Other comments: Northern Grebo has a vigesimal system with special construction for numbers 6, 7, 8 and 9. The words 100 'hɔ̀ndlɔ' and 1000 'taslěwae' are borrowed from English 'hundred' and 'thousand' with phonological adaptations. The 'wae / we' is from English 'unit or piece'. The data was taken from Chedepo dialect of Northern Grebo. Northern Grebo or Klépo is spoken by approximately 150,000 speakers in Grand Gedeh, Grand Kru, Maryland, River Gee, and Sinoe counties; near Cote d’Ivoire border. |
