Other comments: South Fali has a decimal system with special substructure for 8 and 9. The number 8 is a reduplication of náːn 'four'; and ŋɡʌskum is etymologically derived from ŋɡʌs kàm(kàn) k͡pòlò 'rest hand one', which means 'its rests on of (two) hands'. They might borrowed Fulani numbers for 'hundred' and 'thousand' now. The data was taken from Ram village 10 kilometers northwest of Pitoa, North Cameroon in 1975. South Fali is spoken by approximately 20,000 speakers in North region: Bénoué division, northeast of Garoua, Pitoa subdivision, Cameroon. |
