Other comments: Boko has a rather peculiar vigesimal system similar to that of Busa. The word 'sàí' in numbers 14, 18, 19, 24, 28, 29 means 'without'. The 'b̩' in 40 is a syllabic with low tone - very unusual, from bàapla 20 x 2, the 'b̩' in 50 is a syllabic with low tone, too. Boko or Bokonya is spoken by approximately 150,000 speakers in Alibori and Borgou departments: Kalale and Segbana communes, Benin as well as Nigeria. |
