Other comments: Befang or Menchum is a Grassfields language of Cameroon spoken by about by 9,000 speakers in North West region: Menchum division, Wum dubdivision, Befang area; Mezam division, Tuba subdivision, Cameroon. Befang is the local town and also the name of the Menchum dialect spoken there. Befang has an unusual decimal system with 7 and 9 distort the counting base. So, is the language base 4 or 6 or is it still considered as base 10 ?
This language is the sister
of Obang. The Befang and the Obang both originated from Widikum. But
there are light changes in relation to the vowels and consonants in both
languages.
Befang Vowelsː
Tone system unknown. High v́, low v̀, mid v̄, falling v̂, highmid v. |
