Other comments: Other comments: Aruamu or Mikarew is spoken by approximately 12,000 speakers in Bogia district, Mandang province, Papua New Guinea. Aruamu system has a 2-cycle basic numeral set (1, 2) and with a word for hand 'dafarir '. They can count with this way up to twenty-one or higher. However, because the Aruamu number system is cumbersome, in this last generation, most people do not use the Aruamu numbers above five. They just switch to Tok Pisin numbers. Or they just use the Aruamu word for “many”: avɨriba. |

Other comments: Aruamu or Mikarew is spoken in Bogia district, Mandang province, Papua New Guinea. Aruamu system is a 2-cycle one with the basic numeral set (1, 2); 3 has a '2+1' construction (or rather 'two+another') and 4 has a '2+2' construction. The SIL word list has a '2+2+1' construction for 5 as has two of the CSQ informants: one informant has 'hand one' but otherwise there is no information that this is a digit-tally system. New data needed to compare with the old one. |
