Quechua Pronunciation and Spelling
These pages aim to answer all the commonest and most important questions about the
spelling systems proposed for Quechua and Aymara, especially about the
pan-Andean alphabet and the official ‘unified’ spelling.
We look at all of these questions as
organised into various pages. To change
from one page to another, just click on the links to each, in the index column
at the bottom right of this window.
Nonetheless, it is best to read them
all in order.
The
first four pages deal with sounds and
spelling in general.
If
you want to print out this text, we recommend our printable versions of all four of those pages
together:
either in .pdf format: A4 paper size or Letter paper size
or in Microsoft Word format: A4 paper size or Letter paper size
There
is a separate page on the quite different issue of five specific suffixes in
Quechua for which a unified suffix
spelling is proposed. A printable
version of this is available direct from that webpage.
