Other comments: Zimakani is spoken by about 1,500 speakers in the southern Lake Murray district, in a region which extends southwards to the junction of the Fly and Strickland Rivers, Western province, Papua New Guinea. The Zimakani system possesses a 2-cylce; 3 has a '2+1' construction and 1 has a '2+2') construction. The numbers word for 5 contains a 'hand' morpheme, 'zeda' or 'zenda'. It seems likely, then, that the system is a digit tally one and many therefore possesses a 5-cyscles in a addition to the 2-cycle. Zimakani has recorded traditional numerals from 1 to 5, over 50 years ago, not sure if they are still using old traditional numbers or body-tally system after 5 or now use Tok Pisin numerals after 5. New data for numbers after 5 is required. |
