Other comments: Waruna is spoken by about 600 speakers with the Ari language is spoken in a bend of the Fly River, Western province, Papua New Guinea. The Waruna people are bilingual and all have Googodala as their second language. The number word for 2, 'saki', is indeed identical to the corresponding Gogodala word. Waruna has recorded traditional numerals from 1 to 10, over 50 years ago. The Waruna system is more likely a digit-tally one and that this possesses a (2,5) cyclic structure, not sure if they are still using old body-tally system after 5 or now use Tok Pisin numerals after 5. New data for numbers after 5 is required. |
