Other comments: Wanambre is spoken in five villages (Z'graggen, 1975) situated in a region adjacent to the Musar speaking villages, Madang Province, Papua New Guinea. The total resident population pf the Wanmabre speaking villages at the 1980 National Census was 505). The only numbers data obtained fro Wanambre derive from Capell's (1951 /52) survey of the languages of the Bogia district in which the language is refereed to as 'Vanembere'. The Wanambre system is almost identical to that of the Musar; the basic numeral set is (1,2); 3, 4, and 5 having the constructions '2+1', '2 +2', and '2+2+1' respectively (although Capell notes that the numeral 2, ''ere'verep'', undergoes a change to ''e'rep'' when used in compounds). No further data are available to indicate whether the system is a digit-tally one. New data needed to compare with the old one. |
