Other comments: Neme has a base-six counting system (senary system), with special terms for 12, 18, 24, 30, 36 and so on. 4 native Neme speakers attended a course here at Ukarumpa recently, and they worked with their mentor, Olga, to write down their numbers.Olga asked them for these numbers, and they only had six. It's a base-six system, with special words for 2x6 and 6x6 and so on, but she didn't elicit them. Neme is spoken by about 200 speakers in Morehead district, Keru and Mitere villages northeast of Morehead, Western province, Papua New Guinea. |
