Other comments: Moresada is spoken in a single village (Z'graggen, 1975) situated 25 kilometers due south of Bogia, Madang Province. Arthur Capell (1951/52 ) survey of the languages of the Bogia district recorded the above data. Several of the Moresada numerals (3, 4, 5) are similar to those found in the languages pf the Kaukombaran family (e.g. Pay (Mala), Saki (Maia), Tani (Maiani). The system possesses a 5-cycle and the basic numeral set appears to be (1, 2, 3, 4, 5). The word for 'arm' according to Z'graggen (1980) is '-gombogen' (Capell has 'gonbugan' and the word for 'thumb' is 'imbubor', neither of these appears in the numbers word for 5 and thus it is not certain whether this has a body-part referent ( a similar uncertainty exists for Pay, Saki, and Tani). New data needed to compare with the old one. |
