Other comments: Mape is spoken by approximately 1,700 speakers in Mape river area, Morobe province, Papua New Guinea. The Mape (Mabe) system is a digit-tally one with a basic numeral set (1, 2,). The numeral words for 5 and 10 both contain a 'hand' morpheme 'me'. Another data collected by Geoff Smith (1984) had the numbers for 15 'me yoka a mo or meyoyoka kifuo mobu 'hands two and leg one whole' and 20 me yoka o yoka or ngi mobu 'man whole' Note thatː q=IPA [k͡p], gb=IPA [ɡ͡b], z= IPA [ts] |
