Other comments: Mahli is the ethnic name, section of the Santals, spread over West Bengal and Jharkhand. The language name is mentioned in Grierson’s Linguistic Survey of India. Mahli or Mahli has a traditional vigesimal system, but they use loanwords from Indo-Aryan language and the traditional Mahli numerals are no longer used, the traditional numerals are exactly the same as the Santali numerals. Mahali or Mahli is spoken by approximately 29,000 speakers in Assam, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, West Bengal states, India as well as Bangladesh. |
