Other comments: Kunigami is spoken by approximately 4,900 speakers in Okinawa prefecture: central and north Okinawa island; Ie-jima, Iheya, Izena, and Sesoko islands. Kunigami has a decimal system. The above data were based on Nakijin dialect (今归仁方言) of Okinawa. The [tʼ] and [tʃʼ] are glottalized stop and affricative respectively. Most of the numbers over ten are borrowed from Chinese with phonological adaptations. se Japanese, especially the younger generation (Wurm and Hattori 1981). |
