Other comments: Ekari is spoken by approximately 100,000 speakers in Paniai regencies in west central highlands and Lake Paniai area and Kaimana regency in West Papua province, Indonesia. Ekari has a counting system based on sixty (sexagesimal system). Notes:
1) /ɡʟ/
is graphemically <g>, it is not clear whether it is a velar stop or
velar lateral.
2). I haven’t got what happens after 60; 3). 12-18, just add 2, 3, etc
to
má ɡʟáːtiʔ,
the (Drabbe 1952: 30) recorded 71 as 'èna ma gàati dàimita mutò='one and ten and sixty'. the base of 60 was also used in the ancient Near Eastern language Sumerian. |
