Other comments: Ari is spoken by about 600 speakers with the Waruna language is spoken in a bend of the Fly River, Western province, Papua New Guinea. The Ari people are bilingual and all have Googodala as their second language. The number word for 2, 'saki', is indeed identical to the corresponding Gogodala word. The Ari system is more likely a digit-tally one and that this possesses a (2,5) cyclic structure. Ari has recorded traditional numerals from 1 to 5, over 50 years ago, not sure if they are still using old traditional numbers or body-tally system after 5 or now use Tok Pisin numerals after 5. New data for numbers after 5 is required. |
