Feature Annotation
Many pidgins and creoles have a word such as pickaninny, pickney, pikinini for ‘child’. It is commonly agreed that these go back to Portuguese pequeninho. One way of identifying such an item in your language is to look for a word meaning ‘child’, ‘little’, ’offspring’ with a /p/ and a /k/ (or related sounds) in the first part.
Note that this is a diachronic material feature. In general, APiCS contains only synchronic structural features, but this is an exception (like Feature 110).
Information on the meaning, history etc. is highly welcome and can be entered in the comments field.
