Feature Annotation
Here we are asking about object relative clauses, i.e. relative clauses in which the relativized element plays the role of object. (See Features 92 and 94 for other relative clause types.)
The terms relative pronoun, resumptive pronoun, gap, zero and non-reduction are explained in the Feature annotation to Feature 92.
Additional remarks
Note that the first sentence was wrong in the March 2008 version: it was "...plays the role of subject".
Values
| Value | Value Annotation | |
| 1 | Relative pronoun | Case-marked: the girl whom you see over there(vs. subject form: the girl who sits over there) |
|---|---|---|
| 2 | Relative particle and gap | English the girl [that I saw _] (relative clause is marked by particle that, role of head is shown by gap _) |
| 3 | Relative particle and resumptive pronoun | Something like “the girl [that I saw her yesterday] ...” |
| 4 | Zero and gap | Something like “the girl [Ø I saw __ yesterday]” (zero relative marker, role of head shown by gap) |
| 5 | Zero and resumptive pronoun | Something like “the girl [Ø I saw her yesterday]” (zero relative marker, role of head shown by resumptive pronoun) |
| 6 | Non-reduction | In the non-reduction strategy, the head noun appears as a full-fledged noun phrase within the relative clause (e.g. correlative: Which girl you see over there, (she) is my daughter, or internally headed: [You see the girl over there] is my friend.)
